Ashtanga & Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh

This is a specialisation, not a general survey. Over twelve focused days on the banks of the Ganga Ji , in the quiet of Upper Tapovan, you go deep into just two styles — the disciplined primary series of Ashtanga, the flowing creativity of Vinyasa — and leave a confident, certified Ashtanga & Vinyasa teacher, ready to guide a room of your own.

Two Styles, Studied Deeply

We call this our Ashtanga & Vinyasa course, and the focus is the whole point. Most general trainings rush through a dozen subjects in a few weeks. Here we do the opposite — twelve unhurried days spent on just two complementary practices, so you leave genuinely fluent in both rather than passingly familiar with many.

A teacher guiding a student through an Ashtanga posture on the Ashtanga and Vinyasa course
01
No experience needed

You do not need a prior certificate or years on the mat. The course starts from the foundational practices and builds toward the more advanced, at a pace that lets a genuine beginner keep up while still giving experienced practitioners something to chew on.

02
Residential, on purpose

You live on ashram for the full twelve days — the same simple food, the same early hours, the same small group from the first morning to the last. Somewhere in the middle of all that, the practice stops being something you do for an hour and becomes something closer to how you live.

03
Two styles, in balance

What you walk away with is real command of both a dynamic and a still practice — the discipline of the Ashtanga series, the fluid grace of Vinyasa — and the confidence to design and lead classes in either, for students of any level.

“Learn one style well and you can follow a sequence. Learn a dynamic style and a still one together, and you finally understand what the body is actually asking for.”
More Than a Certificate

Living at Adhiroha

There is something worth saying plainly, right at the start: these twelve days will ask something of you. This is not a resort with a little stretching bolted onto the side — and we would rather you knew that before you booked than felt misled once you arrived. It is a fair trade, though. Here is both sides of it.

What the month asks of you
Early mornings

And your full attention through the day — the schedule is real, and it starts before sunrise.

Setting comforts down

A willingness to put your usual habits and small luxuries aside, just for a while.

Coming open

Ready to turn inward, rather than reach for the next distraction.

Students in silent sunrise meditation on the banks of the Ganga Ji An ashram — not a resort
What it quietly gives back
A quiet, focused place

Calm by design — not a party with a timetable attached.

Meeting yourself again

The parts of you that you had been far too busy to notice for years.

Good company for your mind

Learning, at last, to sit comfortably with your own thoughts.

The month is never really about becoming someone new — it is about finding your way back to the person you quietly already were.

Why We Teach Only Two Styles

It is tempting to want a course that covers everything at once. We have chosen the opposite path. A dozen subjects crammed into a few weeks leaves you with a shallow taste of each; twelve days spent on two related styles leaves you genuinely able to teach them. Depth beats breadth, every time.

So we refuse to rush. In Ashtanga, the set series is drilled until it lives in the body and the breath. In Vinyasa, you learn to sequence, to link movement to breath, and to build a flow of your own. By the end these are not ideas you have heard about — they are practices living in your own hands.

Is This for You?

Who the Course Is Really For

People worry, before they book, that they are somehow not the right sort of person for this. Too stiff. Too old. Not spiritual enough. Not fit enough. In nearly every case the worry is misplaced — this course was built for ordinary people who feel a genuine pull toward the practice, whatever shape they happen to be in when they arrive.

People at a Crossroads

Looking for a month of clarity, discipline and quiet more than a career change. A stretch of days that make sense again — and space to hear yourself think.

What it actually asks for is not flexibility or youth. It is willingness — turn up open, do the work, and the course meets you exactly where you are.

Why Train Here

Why Join the Best Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh

There is no shortage of schools, and choosing well from the other side of the world is genuinely hard. So here, without the marketing gloss, are the things that actually set this course apart.

The Adhiroha yoga acharyas who lead the training Students moving through deep, unhurried practice in the shala A sacred Shiva shrine in the peaceful gardens of the Adhiroha ashram Graduates celebrating their certification at Adhiroha Teachers Who Have Lived It
01

Teachers Who Have Lived It

Every subject is led by a Yoga Acharya with somewhere between nine and twenty years behind them, not a recent graduate reading from notes. They know their material in their bones, and share it without a trace of ego. More than anything else on this page, they are the reason people travel across the world to train with us — and the reason so many come back.

02

A Genuinely Holistic Course

This is not twelve days of postures and nothing else. The course pairs Ashtanga and Vinyasa with pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy and real teaching skill — so you leave understanding not just the shapes but the intelligence beneath them, which is exactly what separates a confident teacher from someone demonstrating poses.

03

The Spirit of Rishikesh

Wrapped in rivers and forest, Rishikesh gives you a setting no city studio can borrow. One guided excursion each batch, the evening aarti by the Ganga Ji , kirtan, and a sound healing session are all part of the course — so the culture you are training inside becomes part of the training itself.

04

A Certificate That Travels

You finish with the Adhiroha Ashtanga & Vinyasa certificate, accredited under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India — a mark of authentic, traditional training that studios and retreats recognise almost anywhere you might want to teach.

The Curriculum

What You Actually Learn

Two styles at the centre — Ashtanga and Vinyasa — with everything a teacher needs built around them: breath, meditation, alignment, anatomy, philosophy and the craft of teaching. Fewer subjects than a general course, studied far more deeply, and taken from your own mat to the front of the room.

A student folding into deep, unhurried asana practice inside the Adhiroha shala
12 days — Ashtanga, Vinyasa and the essentials that support them, one focused class at a time
Pillar 01

The Practice

The body learns first

Ashtanga Primary Series — the set sequence, learned posture by posture.

Vinyasa Flow — linking breath to movement in a creative, flowing sequence.

Alignment & Adjustment — positioning a body safely, and adjusting with care.

Pillar 02

The Breath & Mind

Turning attention inward

Shat Karma — six ancient cleansing practices that prepare the body.

Pranayama — breathing techniques — the engine of the whole practice.

Meditation — learning to sit with, and finally settle, the mind.

Pillar 03

The Knowledge

The why behind it all

Yoga Philosophy & Ethics — the old texts and ideas, made alive and practical.

Anatomy & Physiology — what each posture actually does inside the body.

Basics of Ayurveda — the sister science of living and eating well.

Where it all leads
Pillar 04

The Craft

Becoming the teacher

Teaching Methodology — how to sequence, cue, adjust and hold a class.

Teaching Practice — real practice teaching, in front of real people.

Mantra Chanting — opening and closing a room with sound.

By the last week the pillars stop feeling like separate subjects at all — the practice, the breath, the knowledge and the craft settle into one thing, and that one thing is you, teaching.

A Day in the Life

The Rhythm of a Course Day

People always want to know what the days really feel like, so here is the honest shape of one — full but never frantic. It looks like a lot written down, and the first two days can feel that way. Then something clicks.

Morning
5:45 — 8:45
5:45

Shatkarma — gentle cleansing practices as the light comes up

6:00

Pranayama and breathwork, while the air is still cool

7:15

A strong Ashtanga primary-series practice to wake the body

8:45

Breakfast — warm and simple, eaten without hurry

Mid-Day
9:30 — 13:00
9:30

Alignment and anatomy — the science behind the postures

11:00

A creative Vinyasa flow, linking breath to movement

13:00

Lunch, then a real rest through the warm part of the day

Afternoon
14:45 — 16:15
14:45

Philosophy and ethics — discussion more than lecture

16:15

A second Ashtanga session as the afternoon softens

Evening
18:00 — 19:30
18:00

Bhakti chanting, then meditation as the day winds down

19:30

Dinner, and lights out early — because dawn comes early too

By the end of the first week, the rhythm carries you rather than the other way round.

This steady repetition, day after day in clean mountain air, is the real teacher — far more than any single clever class.

The Arc of the Twelve Days

Twelve Days, Start to Finish

The twelve days are not a flat stretch of identical mornings. They have a shape, and knowing it ahead of time helps. Most people move through roughly the same arc, whatever level they arrive at.

The Adhiroha ashram resting in the green hills of Upper Tapovan
Day 1 — you arriveDay 12 — you teach
The First Few Days

Arriving

You land, shake off the travel, and meet the group you will share these twelve days with. The first sessions are deliberately gentle — nobody is thrown in the deep end. You find your rhythm with the food and the early nights, and let the noise of the journey settle.

The First Week

Foundations

This is the week the body complains a little. Muscles you had forgotten make themselves known, and the new information can seem like a lot. Stay with it — by the end of the week the aches fade and the pieces start to fit together.

The Middle Days

The Shift

Almost without warning, something turns. You stop copying the teacher and start noticing alignment in the people beside you. You anticipate the next cue — the moment it stops being something done to you and becomes something you can do.

The Final Days

Teaching & Farewells

You plan and lead full classes to your peers, take honest feedback with good grace, and sit your final assessment. Then the certificates come, and the goodbyes — almost always harder than anyone expects.

The ashram

Amenities at Our Yoga School in Rishikesh

A practice always takes on the shape of the space it happens in, and we have spent years making ours feel right. The ashram spreads across three quiet acres beside a flowing brook, ringed by hills and forest — and every corner of it exists for a reason.

A Peaceful Three-Acre Ashram

An In-House Cafe and Massage Centre

On rest days there is a cosy cafe serving healthy organic drinks and snacks, and an Ayurvedic massage centre for when the body asks for it. After a hard week of practice, an hour of traditional massage is less a luxury than genuine self-care.

What You Earn

The Certificate You Leave With

Finish the twelve days and you leave with a recognised teaching certificate — the Adhiroha Ashtanga & Vinyasa certificate, accredited by the Yoga Certification Board under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. It marks you as trained in an authentic, traditional lineage, and it is what lets you step in front of a class and teach with real authority. A studio in Berlin, a retreat in Goa, a wellness centre closer to home — a certificate earned in Rishikesh rarely needs explaining.

To receive it, you simply need to be present and take part — a minimum of 90% attendance and a genuine effort through the final assessment. Meet that, and you leave with a qualification that never expires and the confidence of a certified Ashtanga & Vinyasa teacher.

“A resume that reads ‘trained in Rishikesh’ carries a weight the very same hours elsewhere simply do not.”

Why Rishikesh
Why Rishikesh

The Setting Does Half the Work

You could learn these same postures in a studio in almost any city. What you could not do is learn them here. Rishikesh sits exactly where the Ganga Ji leaves the mountains and meets the plains — a threshold place that has drawn seekers and teachers for thousands of years. The air feels cleaner and somehow more awake; temple bells carry across the water at first light.

Choosing to train here means choosing all of that as your backdrop, not as scenery but as part of the teaching. You practise where the tradition has been kept alive across centuries, and learning tends to go deeper, faster, simply because the place keeps drawing you quietly inward.

Set a little above the busy riverbank, up in the calm of Upper Tapovan, our ashram gives you that rare pairing — real spiritual weight and genuine peace, in the same breath.
Your Home for the Month

Where You Will Stay

Your first step toward teaching deserves more than a bed and four walls. The ashram sits on three quiet acres beside a flowing brook, wrapped in hills and forest, and the accommodation is designed to do one thing above all — keep your mind free for the practice.

  • Clean, airy rooms full of natural light, most looking straight out at the mountains
  • Ensuite washrooms with dependable hot water, around the clock
  • Simple, peaceful interiors that make it easy to rest deeply and sit quietly
  • Reliable high-speed WiFi and safe RO drinking water throughout the ashram
  • Twin or triple sharing for the full twelve days — you are never quite alone
Students often say it was the best they had slept in years — and that the mornings, for once, felt like something to look forward to.

The Food

Simple Meals That Support the Practice

The kitchen runs on one quiet belief: over time, you become what you eat. Three nourishing vegetarian meals arrive each day, cooked in the Satvik and Ayurvedic way, built around exactly what a body under a full practice load actually needs. The ingredients come fresh from local organic farms, and everything is prepared simply, without fuss.

Do not mistake simple for plain, though. Most students are quietly surprised by how good the food is. Eating this way for twelve days does something you notice slowly: lighter mornings, steadier energy, a clearer head on the mat.

Much of what you learn here about living well is not taught in a classroom at all — it is absorbed from the rhythm of simple meals, early nights and unhurried mornings.

Excursions and Cultural Life

A real education never stops at the edge of the shala — so woven through the course are one excursion a week and a handful of small rituals that tie you to the living culture all around you. For many students, these turn out to be the memories they hold onto longest.

Before You Arrive

How to Prepare

You do not need to be fit, flexible or experienced to begin — most people on the course are new to all of this. Still, five easy things in the weeks before you travel make the first days much smoother.

Aerial view of the Adhiroha ashram resting in the green hills of Upper Tapovan
Step 01

Sit quietly

A few minutes of stillness and simple breathing most days — just enough to build a little focus.

Step 02

Move a little

Move in whatever way you enjoy, so the early mornings feel less of a shock.

Step 03

Eat & hydrate

Look after yourself in the final week before you fly — future you will be grateful.

Step 04

Sort your travel

Tell us your arrival time, and the airport pickup will be waiting for you.

Step 05

Pack an open mind

Leave your expectations loose. The only item on this list that really matters.

Think of it as easing yourself toward the door, not training for a marathon — and if you can only manage one of these, make it the last one.

The People at the Front of the Room

We never hand a whole course to one person, and we never put an intern at the front — every subject is led by someone who has genuinely lived it for years.

What You Become

The Kind of Teacher This Course Makes

Anyone can learn to call out a sequence of postures. The teachers people remember are made of something quieter — and this course is built to grow exactly that.

You leave able to hold a room

to keep a class of mixed abilities safe,

to adjust a body without ever forcing it,

and to speak with the calm authority that lets people trust you.

When you have sat with your own restless mind and learned to breathe through it, you can see the same struggle in a student across the room and meet it with patience instead of judgement. But you also leave gentler with yourself — which, oddly enough, is what makes you a good teacher for anyone else. That blend of skill and humanity is what these twelve days are quietly designed to produce.

The Fine Print, Honestly

Prerequisites, Assessment & Conduct

A few practical things worth knowing before you enrol, laid out plainly — no surprises hiding in small letters.

90%attendance is
all we ask
§ 01

A working level of English

English is the language of instruction — and classroom English is plenty. If you can read this page, you can follow the course.

§ 02

Every class counts

This is an immersive course, and all classes and sessions are mandatory — it only works if everyone is genuinely in it, together.

§ 03

Show up, and finish

Keep at least ninety percent attendance and take part in the final assessment. Meet that, and you receive the Adhiroha Ashtanga & Vinyasa certificate — accredited by the Yoga Certification Board, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

§ 04

Ashram etiquette

We ask every student to read and follow a simple code of conduct — a handful of ashram etiquettes that keep the space calm, focused and kind for everyone in it.

None of it is heavy. It is just the frame that lets the real work happen.

The Path Ahead

What Comes After Your Ashtanga & Vinyasa Training

We will be honest with you: a certificate is a beginning, not a finish line. Real confidence to teach comes from hours logged under good guidance — which is why even these twelve days give so much time to real teaching practice rather than theory alone.

There is no pressure to rush. Many teachers build a whole practice around Ashtanga and Vinyasa alone. But if you want the full, internationally registered credential, a complete 200-hour training is the natural next step — and a good number of our graduates come back for exactly that.

Once you have trained in these hills with us, you remain part of the Adhiroha family for good — questions answered long after you leave, and a warm welcome whenever you return.

A Few Honest Words

Common Worries, Answered Plainly

Almost everyone hesitates a little before booking a month away — and that hesitation is completely normal. It is usually one of a handful of quiet worries, so let us meet them head on.

“I am not flexible enough for this.”
A
You do not need to be. Flexibility is something the practice slowly gives you — not a ticket you need before you arrive.
“I am too old.”
A
Our students run well into their sixties and beyond — and they thrive.
“I have never taught anything. I am not sure I can.”
A
Nearly everyone feels that way in week one — and stands confidently in front of a class by week three. The course is built to get you there.
“What if I am travelling alone?”
A
You will not feel alone for long. A residential course turns a room of strangers into friends faster than almost anything else.

If a different worry is sitting on your mind, write to us and ask. There is no script waiting at the other end — only people who once stood exactly where you are standing now.

Click for more FAQs
How long is the course, and how is it structured?
The Ashtanga & Vinyasa yoga teacher training in Rishikesh runs for twelve immersive days. You arrive on the 30th or 31st, the course runs from the 1st to the 12th, and each day moves from early-morning cleansing and pranayama through Ashtanga, Vinyasa, alignment, philosophy and teaching practice — a complete, focused specialisation from start to finish.
I have never done any teacher training — is this really for beginners?
Yes, genuinely. Most people on any given batch are new to it, and the course assumes no prior teaching experience at all. You build everything from the ground up, at a pace that lets beginners keep up without feeling lost.
What certificates do I actually receive?
One recognised teaching certificate: the Adhiroha Ashtanga & Vinyasa certificate, accredited by the Yoga Certification Board under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. It marks you as trained in an authentic lineage, it never expires, and it lets you teach Ashtanga and Vinyasa classes at studios and retreats worldwide.
What does the course cost, and what is included?
A shared-triple place starts from €790, and that already covers your accommodation, three meals a day, all training and certification, a welcome kit, excursions and airport pickup from Dehradun. A €300 registration holds your seat and forms part of that total, with the balance paid on arrival.
Does this work as a foundation for a full 200-hour later?
Beautifully. Many people take this Ashtanga & Vinyasa intensive as a deep first taste of teaching, then go on to a full 200-hour training for the Yoga Alliance credential. It stands completely on its own, but it also makes a wonderful head start on whatever comes next.
Is there an age limit?
You need to be eighteen or older, and there is no upper limit at all. Our students range from their late teens well into their sixties and beyond. What matters here is readiness and willingness, not age.
Does the certification ever expire?
No. Your Adhiroha Ashtanga & Vinyasa certificate is a permanent qualification and does not expire. There is nothing to renew and no membership to maintain — once you have earned it, it is yours for good.
What is the difference between Ashtanga and Vinyasa?
Ashtanga is a fixed sequence — the same primary series each time, breath linked precisely to movement, building strength, stamina and discipline. Vinyasa takes that breath-and-movement principle and frees it, so you learn to build creative, flowing sequences of your own. Learning both gives you structure and freedom — the full range a good flow teacher needs.
Will this certificate be recognised where I want to teach?
Yes. A certificate from an accredited Rishikesh school — the acknowledged home of traditional yoga — carries real weight at studios, wellness centres and retreats across the world, backed by the Ministry of Ayush accreditation.
What are the real benefits of this Ashtanga & Vinyasa course?
Beyond the certificate and the ability to teach, most people leave with clearer minds, healthier habits, steadier emotions and a genuine sense of direction. It is as much a personal turning point as a professional one — that is simply the nature of living the practice for twelve days.
How do I choose the right course and school?
Look for authentic teaching, experienced instructors and honest reviews from real students rather than glossy promises. A good school will be transparent about its teachers, its schedule and its fees. If a school is happy to answer your awkward questions plainly, that tells you most of what you need to know.
